Nei Gong
The Daoist Process of Internal Transformation
Nei Gong is not a specific exercise routine. It is a series of stages which can be worked through using the internal arts as a vehicle for the internal transformation which takes place. It is the process by which the ancient Daoists cultivated their mind, body and spirit until they could attain union with the Dao.
“Nei Gong charges up my batteries. It is incredibly rejuvenating. It has cleared blockages on a physical, emotional and spiritual level.” Student from Suffolk
Nei Gong is the programme of personal development which underpins all of the internal arts taught within our school. Whatever Daoist style you choose to practice, the exercises and movements will be used as a tool for understanding and integrating the principles of Nei Gong.
So What Does Nei Gong Do?
Nei Gong first leads us to condition the physical body. We learn to align our physical structure so that our body functions more efficiently. We learn to relax and open up all of the major joints of the body which enables us to circulate blood, Qi and other bodily fluids more effectively. The mind begins to quieten down giving us inner peace and mental clarity, a profound gift in itself.
Once the body is suitably prepared, our energy system is awakened and Qi begins to flow throughout the various energetic pathways which nourish our organs, tissues and brain. The body is softened further and our health and well-being improves greatly.
The higher stages of Nei Gong work directly with the energetic substances of our body known as Jing, Qi and Shen in Daoism. We learn to cultivate these treasures and lead them to nourish our very consciousness. This brings our emotions into balance and allows our inner nature to shine out from within us.
Why Have I Not Heard of Nei Gong?
Most people have heard of Qi Gong (Chi Kung) exercises and every day tens of thousands of people in the West use these ancient movements to promote good health and a clear mind. What is less well known is that these exercises can be utilised as tools to lead you deep into Nei Gong if you have the correct tuition. Until recently, Nei Gong was kept a well guarded secret, Qi Gong became popular as a preventative health-care system but Nei Gong was not spread openly amongst the general population of China.
